The new Greenock Health and Care Centre has been recognised by the Glasgow Institute of Architects for its unique and striking design.

Designed by Hoskins Architects, the facility took home the healthcare award at the prestigious event at Glasgow’s BAaD last week.

The £21million centre, which has been serving the Inverclyde community since May, was officially opened by Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care, Humza Yousaf MSP last month.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Project manager, John Stevenson said: “We are delighted that the Greenock Health and Care Centre has been recognised for the positive impact it’s already having on the area. This project represents a significant investment in the area, totalling around £21million.

Jeanette Hawthorn service lead at Inverclyde HSCP for the Greenock Health and Care Centre said: “We wanted to create a purpose built space that the community and our dedicated staff would be proud of. This bright, modern and fully accessible building not only looks good but provides an opportunity to reshape and increase services from a patient and service user perspective. We are already seeing the positive impact this new site is having on the area, both through its design and the vital services it brings to the community.”

The Greenock Health and Care Centre was created through a partnership between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Inverclyde Health and Social Care Partnership, Inverclyde Council and Hub West Scotland, with the local community collaborating with the project team to ensure the best possible facility for Greenock and Inverclyde.

As well as modernising the existing facilities, the new site looks to make services more integrated, accessible and efficient for patients and service users, while contributing to the wider goals of community regeneration and addressing health inequalities.

Councillor Robert Moran, Inverclyde’s Health and Social Care Convener, said: “A lot of time and effort went into the design and development of the Greenock Health and Care Centre over many years so I’m thrilled for everyone involved on winning this award.

“Not only is it a first-class healthcare facility fit for the 21st Century, the centre is also visually spectacular inside and out, as this honour will testify, and one that the people of Greenock and indeed Inverclyde can be rightly proud of.

“A huge congratulations to the council and HSCP staff, our partners at the health board and, of course, the builders and architects who all brought the development to life for the benefit of our residents and who deserve this recognition.”
