UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS) is accepting proposals for its seed grant program designed to help research groups get projects off the ground, and equip them with initial results needed to seek major external funding. Penn State faculty from any campus or college can submit applications now through 5 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2022. Funds for successfully awarded projects would be available in summer 2022.

ICDS will consider any interdisciplinary research project proposal with a computational or data science focus, but special attention will be given to projects meeting the 2022 seed grant themes, include scientific AI (artificial intelligence) and predictive modeling; applied scientific AI and predictive modeling; AI-enabled data and computing infrastructure; and human-centered AI and responsible data sciences.

Special consideration will also be given to projects that include researchers from multiple Penn State colleges and campuses, as well as projects involving scientists at different career stages.

Researchers can apply for two levels of ICDS seed grant funding. One level is geared toward bringing together a new team, developing a proof of concept or developing early stage methodologies. Researchers with larger-scale projects in mind can apply for a higher level funding as long as the project has a clear pathway to major external funding.

For more information about the 2022 ICDS seed grant program themes, eligibility, budget restrictions and deadlines, visit the ICDS seed grant page.
