LISTING OF THE DAY
Location: Greenwich, Connecticut
Price: $9.68 million
This fully renovated classic Georgian Colonial on a large lot in the well-heeled Deer Park neighborhood offers a pool, mature grounds, six en-suite bedrooms, an elevator, a wine cellar and a gym.
Built in 1929, the 20-room brick mansion has “beautiful curb appeal,” said Vanessa Savio, of Coldwell Banker, who had the listing with Lynne Carriello. The home sold in August shortly after this interview for a little under its asking price.
The former owners “restored everything, from the roof down to the studs,” Ms. Savio said. “The woodwork and the moldings from the 1920s are breathtaking.”
“It is truly one of a kind, even for Deer Park,” Ms. Carriello added. One of its nicest features is the full front-to-back foyer that leads into the generously proportioned public rooms.
You step down into the formal living room, which has a fireplace, doors to the gardens and a large patio. The adjacent formal dining room also has a fireplace and exterior doors.
The original library has been newly enlarged. It features a wet bar, custom built-in cabinetry, a fireplace and French doors out to the patio.
The kitchen has a dining area, double islands and a butler’s pantry. This floor also holds a large family room with a fireplace, a mudroom and a powder room.
All six en-suite bedrooms are on the second floor. The primary suite overlooks the grounds and features dual closets, a sitting area and a coffered ceiling.
The third floor has a gift-wrapping area and lots of storage. The lower level holds a wine cellar, a gym, a media room, a game room and a smoking room.
“The grounds are beautifully appointed, with three seasons of flowers and very, very mature plantings,” Ms. Carriello said. “It’s like a private oasis back there.”
Ms. Savio agreed. “It feels like backcountry Greenwich, but it’s one minute to town, two minutes to the train.”
The 9,150-square-foot house has six bedrooms, six full bathrooms and two partial bathrooms. It stands on a 1.7-acre lot.
Amenities include a pool, a three-car garage, a circular driveway, a wet bar, five fireplaces, an elevator, a gym, playroom, a media room, a wine cellar with a tasting room, large flat lawn areas, stone terraces and mature gardens.
“Deer Park is one of the most prestigious neighborhoods in Greenwich,” Ms. Savio said. “It’s old, with classic 1920s houses close to town.”
“It’s not gated, but it does have private roads and a homeowners association,” Ms. Carriello said.
