Snow has taken New York by storm this week. Thankfully, the runways have been awash with inspiration for the winter months, and the catwalk clan has slipped easily into dressing the part.
Balaclavas have been edging their way into the mainstream, having been seen on every runway through menswear weeks last month and at the recent Copenhagen Fashion Week.
The headgear was rocked by Bella Hadid during the Proenza Schouler show during this New York Fashion Week. Now, they are a staple of street style too, coming in dark shades, spruced up with leopard print coats, or crochet in bright colours.
On foot, spikey stilettos have been left in their shoe boxes and swapped out for sturdy dad sneakers and Moon Boots – which, with high profile supporters like Dua Lipa, are having something of a resurgence. Shopping platform Lyst has recorded a 53 per cent rise in month-on-month in searches for the ultra-warm footwear style.
There have also been some familiar faces tackling the Big Apple fashion extravaganza. Influencer Mia Regan opted for a long denim trench, complete with thick scarf to battle the breeze, while Ella Emhoff ditched the coat and braved the cold wearing a hugging black, long sleeved dress with an upper abdomen cut-out.
The shows are not over yet. Tuesday will see Michael Kors’ models take to the runway, and on Wednesday both Collina Strada and Prabal Gurung will show their AW22 collections. That means lots more looks, and hopefully a little sunshine.
