Bachelor’s in data science programs begin with core courses that introduce students to tools and theories of data science

Data science and big data programs combine training disciplines in statistics and mathematics with computer science. Bachelors in data science programs begin with core courses that introduce students to tools and theories of data science, including working with big datasets and data visualization techniques. Many bachelor’s programs are project-based, which means students can create portfolios to present future employers. Certain programs partner with local organizations to provide students real-world experience where they are defining problems, collecting data, cleaning that data and interpreting the outcomes. For instance, Chandigarh University offers BE in Big Data and Analytics in collaboration with IBM.

There are courses like Big Data and Analytics that bring opportunities in the IT sector; with demand for skilled technocrats in that field outpacing other IT jobs by a broader margin. Such a course recognizes issues in everyday business, applies data science for a better understanding of data-driven management decisions to get an edge over the competition. It also provides insights into leading analytics practices design and leads iterative learning and development cycles.

A data science student who is pursuing his bachelor’s degree in the respective field from a recognized university is likely to get hired by leading companies like IBM, Amazon, Capgemini, TCS, Deloitte as a data scientist, data analyst, big data engineer, data architect, or database manager.

 

Criteria for Securing a Bachelor’s Degree

As career opportunities in data science are growing rapidly in a country like India, people are enthusiastically opting for their bachelors’ degree in it. They are going for B.Tech, B.Sc, BE, BBA with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Science and AI, or Big Data Analytics, offered by top universities.

Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the above-mentioned courses requires qualifying JEE or Common Entrance Test or some universities evaluate an application based on an applicant’s merit and 10+2 result. On the other hand, some universities prefer candidates who studied Physics, Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Computer Science in their 10+2. Some candidates need to qualify for exams like JEE (Main), SAT or ACT followed by a Personal Interview round to secure admission in these courses.

As per Analytics Insight analysis, 43.79% of universities are offering Bachelor’s courses in Data Science or related courses on campus, 45.40% of universities are offering online courses in Data Science.
