A WORKINGTON restaurant is considering making a food challenge – specially created for a YouTube sensation – into a permanent fixture.
The Eatery welcomed Kyle Gibson, known online as Kyle v Food, to its Solway Road location for his latest video.
The ‘Man v Food Challenge’ comprised of two pizzas, two burgers, two open wraps and two portions of loaded fries.
Discussing how the challenge came around, owner Stephen Richardson said: “I spoke to Kyle last year and he mentioned that he would be looking into finding new challenges once everything reopened after the pandemic.
“He then got back in touch a few weeks ago saying that he had noticed that we were open again and that he was interested in visiting for a challenge.
“So we prepared something for him and he made his way through.
“Because he can eat so much, he asked if we could prepare a special challenge for him. We do special challenges all the time, but I made sure that we were able to whip up something that would actually be a challenge for him.”
Continuing about what Kyle was up against, Stephen explained: “We gave him two 12-inch pizzas, two portions of dirty fries, one cheeseburger fries and one pizza fries, two open wraps and two giant burgers as well. Some of these portions are more than enough for two to three people!
“He was trying to eat it all within an hour. It got to around the 40-minute mark and he had just the one portion of fries to go but he had decided that he had enough. He did do extremely well, however.”
Stephen finished by discussing the possibility of providing the challenge for the restaurant’s customers. He continued: “We were thinking about putting one on, maybe with not that much food as what Kyle was up against because it may be a bit too much for the normal person.
“We want it to be quite realistic but still quite hard to complete.
“We’ve done challenges before, but it’s always been takeaways and we don’t know how people have got on, so we want to have something where we can see how challengers do.
“We may get a t-shirt sorted or have a hall of fame section on our wall for those who complete it.”
