A customer of a fast food restaurant in Leicester has said he is outraged after the camera on his Ring Doorbell caught a delivery driver “scoffing chips” out of his order.
Nayf Storer, from Anstey said he wasn’t at home when the driver rang his bell at about 10pm on March 14, but watched him eating his chips through the app on his mobile phone, which also recorded the moment. The driver can clearly be seen bending down before putting something into his mouth.
The restaurant in Fosse Road has apologised to the family, but says the driver was merely picking the order ticket out of his own bag and grabbing a biscuit to eat. Nayf said he was “horrified” after watching it play out on camera.
He said: “I called my wife straight away to warn her not to touch the food. With what’s happening in the world Covid-wise, you just have to be careful with all of that, especially because of my kids.”
The family, who live in Forest Gate, ordered three chicken wraps, one grilled chicken burger, four chips and four cans of pop. The 36-year-old said when he rang the restaurant they apologised for the actions of the driver.
He said: “I wasn’t there at the time, so it came through on my phone. My wife hadn’t seen what happened, so I spoke through my phone to try and warn her.
“I could see him putting the food down on the doorstep, but he blatantly put our food in his mouth and I called it out straight away. When I spoke to the restaurant, they fully apologised and sent out a fresh order.
“They said it was a new driver they had taken on but it still doesn’t make up for why he did that. I just think it’s totally disgusting, any food delivery order should be sealed in my opinion – just because of stuff like this. Not in a paper bag where food is so accessible.
He added: “We didn’t touch it in the end, but if every driver did this it would be outrageous.”
LeicestershireLive contacted the restaurant and spoke to the owner, who did not wish to be named. He said driver was contracted and not an employee, and apologised for his actions. He said: “I just want the customer to be happy, so anything we can do to make this situation better we are willing.”
