Do you think you can guard and work closely with dangerous criminals – many of those serving a prison sentence for murder or rape? Buckinghamshire is home to two prisons, HMP Spring Hill in Grendon Underwood and HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes.

HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes is one of eight maximum security prisons in the UK at present and deals with those have been determined as a threat to the public, the police or national security. Meanwhile, HMP Spring Hill serves as an open prison, whereby its inmates are not regarded as dangerous.

However, both are currently searching for new recruits to join them with an array of jobs up for grabs. Yet, one job does include guarding those who have been put behind bars in Woodhill.

Recruiters are looking for someone who is a “role model, negotiator, referee, educator, influencer, life changer”. The job advert states ‘no two days are the same’.

The advert also reads: “You will work with people from all kinds of backgrounds to create a safe and secure prison environment. You will support adult offenders with rehabilitation while protecting the public too.

“You will play a leading role in offenders’ lives, meeting regularly with a small caseload of 5-6 offenders. You will manage their development, from learning new skills to participation in education programmes, so there is a better chance they won’t reoffend on release.

“It can be a tough job, but in return you will receive great pay, training, benefits and have the support of a strong team”.

Deadline for this application is April 28. To find out more about the job click here. There are also two other jobs up for grabs at Springhill.

Prison Catering: HMP Grendon and Springhill

This is not your average catering job. Instead, it will see you make a difference to peoples lives where you will oversee offenders prepare and cook food for the entire prison.

It will mean you will play a vital role in ‘helping them turn their lives around’. It will mean supporting them to learn new skills, and work towards achieving qualifications to increase their chances of getting employment and reduce the likelihood of reoffending.

However, to be able to apply for this role you will need to be aged 18 and over. The candidate will also need a Level 2 certificate in Food Production within Hospitality and Catering or equivalent, as well as a Food hygiene Certificate Level 2.

Hours: 37 hours a week, 12 months

Salary: £23,144 – £25,697

Location: HMP Springhill

Deadline: March 25

Prison Employment Lead

As a Prison Employment Lead, you will work towards helping offenders get a job once leaving prison. This will involve helping them build necessary skills whilst they serve their time in Springhill.

You will be responsible for identifying which prisoners are ready for work, prioritise actions and services to ensure offenders achieve work readiness, and match work ready candidates to suitable vacancies supplied by New Futures Network.

Salary: £31,924 – £36,715

Location: HMP Springhill

Deadline: April 4
