A registered nutritionist has revealed a selection of rather bizarre food combinations that may help to improve your health.
Have you ever thought of mixing black grapes with onions to prevent blood clots or combining apples with leafy greens to help improve your mood?
If the answer is no, then you’re not alone.
Rob Hobson, who has a keen interest in food science, has revealed the very unusual food combinations that can potentially have a positive impact on your health.
As reported by The Daily Star, he explains that black grapes are high in polyphenol antioxidant catechin, which helps to prevent cardiovascular disease, cancer, and neurological disorders.
So, when combined with onion, he claims the duo may help to prevent blood clots and improve cardiovascular health.
Among the other unique matchings include apples, which are rich in flavonoids, and leafy greens, which are high in dietary nitrate.
According to diet experts, flavonoids and nitrate can increase nitrous oxide production and as a result, help to improve cognitive mood.

Then there’s black pepper and turmeric, which can be eaten together in dishes such as paprika and turmeric chicken – if the spice rub includes black pepper.
Rob explains that turmeric contains an active ingredient known as curcumin, which is believed to possess anti-inflammatory properties.
However, curcumin doesn’t absorb into the body easily, so that’s where black pepper comes in.
Rob notes that black pepper contains piperine which helps to magnify the absorption, and so when eaten together, paprika and black pepper can help aid joint pain.
Another beneficial meal is a fish curry, the nutritionist says.
That’s because the dish contains a very unsuspecting duo – turmeric and oily fish – which have strong anti-inflammatory qualities.
Meanwhile, eating a banana and yoghurt can help to improve your bone health and aid problems with gut bacteria, according to the diet expert.
Rob also suggests eating that garlic and honey can help with upper respiratory tract infections when eaten together, while almonds and berries can help prevent heart disease.
