Weldon Owen Children’s Books is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic designer to work on an exciting new list of illustrated children’s titles.
The List is primarily non-fiction covering all topics imaginable, from animals and art to science, space, the environment, personal wellbeing and escape puzzles. We also have a chapter book list in the making. Our endeavour is to present subjects in a new way with contemporary art, design and typography. We are passionate about illustration and love quirkiness.
Working closely with the Art Director and Publisher, you will be involved in all stages of the creation process, from presentation to publication.
We are a small passionate team, currently working remotely with regular meetings in London. Our parent company is based in the US.
You must be enthusiastic about typography, contemporary illustration, photography and graphic design, with excellent skills and experience in page layout and cover design, commissioning illustrators and working with typography. You should be proficient in adobe cloud products with
a high level of knowledge in Indesign, Photoshop and Illustrator plus knowledge of the print production process and setting files up for press. Picture book experience would be an asset.
You will be in charge of your own budgets and schedules, and manage external packaging teams, illustrators and designers in conjunction with the editorial team. You need to be a highly organised self-starter who is unflappable under pressure and a strong team player.
This is a full-time position. Final job title and salary are dependent on experience.
